Friday 31st May - Sunday 2nd June

Come join us as Wychwood Festival returns to Cheltenham Racecourse for its 15th year. Perks of volunteering

Can I help?

Venue

  • Access to the festival.
  • Free campsite access.
  • Access to refreshments/facilities in the volunteer office (contribution required)
  • Supporting the Cheltenham music scene.
  • Opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to approximately 16hrs work during the festival. Generally this will be split into three shifts (one morning, one afternoon and one evening shift). There is the option to work longer on Friday to help with the customer arrivals and have more free time over the weekend (campsite team only).

Situated alongside the Prestbury Hills landscape, the festival takes place on the prestigious Cheltenham Racecourse. The campsite is on grass in the middle of the racecourse, with much of the rest of the site on hard-standing.

Volunteer Team Descriptions

  • Arena/Venues Team (Friday to Sunday)

This team covers the arena venues and stewarding positions in and around the festival arena. You will be required to complete 3 shifts (up to 6hrs per shift, totaling 18hrs). Everyone on this team will need to complete one morning, one afternoon and one evening shift. The earliest start time will be 9am and latest you may be required is 1am.

  • Campsites Team (Thursday to Monday)

This team covers the festival campsites and some positions leading into the campsites. You will be required to complete 3 shifts (up to 5.25hrs per shift, totaling 15.5hrs). The earliest start time will be 8am and latest you may be required is 10:30pm. There is an option on this team to work a double shift on Friday when the majority of the audience will be arriving, this gives you more free time over the rest of the weekend.

  • Volunteer HQ Team (Thursday to Sunday)

This team looks after everything that goes on in the Volunteer HQ marquee. Tasks include; registering volunteer arrivals, issuing equipment, selling soup kitchen wristbands, keeping the refreshments area stocked up and clean and tidy. You will be required to complete 3 shifts (up to 5.25hrs per shift, totaling 15.5hrs). The earliest start time will be 7am and latest you may be required is 10pm.

  • Information/Merchandise Team (Friday to Sunday)

This team works in the information/merchandise marquee in the arena. Providing customer information and selling festival merchandise. Other responsibilities also include dealing with lost property and missing/found children. You will be required to complete 3 shifts (up to 5.25hrs per shift, totaling 15.5hrs). One of these shifts will be helping on the campsite team as a campsite steward as the information/merchandise is only open from midday until 10pm. The earliest start time will be 8am (campsite shift) and latest you may be required is 10pm.

  • Night Team (Thursday to Monday)

Working on this team involves working one overnight shift 10pm-7am in the Volunteer HQ marquee (same role as Volunteer HQ team, see above) and also one 4hr daytime shift (likely to be helping with campsite arrivals on Friday). This totals 13hrs.

  • Campsite Setup/Break team (Monday to Thursday pre-festival and Monday post-festival)

We require a small team to assist with the setup and break of the campsite. This role involves a fair amount of walking and setting up barriers, boundary markers, signage etc. A reasonable level of fitness is a bonus, along with initiative to work on tasks unsupervised, although none of the tasks are too complicated or strenuous. Some stewarding will be required as during build we need to ensure that any early arrivals go into the right areas, which may not have been marked out already. Shifts are all daytime and will be approximately 9am-4pm, however this depends on the amount of work completed so could be shorter days if all goes to plan. If you are not able to stay until Monday for the break then we would ask that you help with customer arrivals to the campsite on Friday instead.
