For three days and four joyful nights in July the Victorian pleasure gardens on the Cranborne Chase transform into a sensory wonderland, ensuring adventure at every turn. Get ready to enjoy top-notch local, national and international artists in music, outdoor theatre, live performances, arts and comedy, as well as blissful retreats and legendary international cuisine to fill your belly and nourish the soul.
We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a minimum of 4 days work during the festival. This will generally be over Thursday to Sunday or Friday to Monday. Shifts will be approximately 5hrs each (this does vary slightly between different teams) and split over morning, afternoon and evening.
Larmer Tree Festival takes place in the stunning setting of Larmer Tree Gardens, situated on the Wiltshire/Dorset boundary not far from Salisbury and Blandford Forum.
You’ll be checking wristbands/vehicle passes at gates, monitoring the safety of the audience, venues, buildings and gardens, being prepared to act calmly and efficiently under instruction in the event of an emergency. Giving directions, general information, answering any questions, being a friendly face and a steward presence. You will need to work approx. one 4.5hr shift per day (4 in total). Your shift pattern will be a combination of morning, afternoon, early evening and late evening shifts. Stewards shifts could fall from Thursday morning until midday Monday.
You’ll be welcoming and directing to campsites (audience, artists’ and crew) and parking areas, checking emergency routes are clear, keeping a lookout for any problems, ensuring rules are adhered to, answering any questions and being a friendly face and a steward presence. You will need to work four shifts (each shift approx. 4hrs, totalling 16.5hrs) Your shift pattern will be a combination of morning, afternoon, early evening and late evening shifts. Campsite stewards shifts could fall from Thursday morning until midday Monday.
You’ll be meeting and welcoming all vehicles (audience, artists’ and crew), checking passes, parking vehicles, directing on to the appropriate campsite/stage/box office, patrolling the van field and day parking field. You will need to work four shifts (each shift approx. 4hrs, totalling 16.5hrs) Your shift pattern will be a combination of morning, afternoon, early evening and late evening shifts. Shifts could fall from Thursday morning until midday Monday.
You’ll be the face of the festival in the central Info Tent; answering general queries, engaging and interacting with the audience (i.e. competition entries), receiving audience feedback, reporting and looking after lost property, communicating programme changes and liaising with the Production Office. You’ll also provide an essential facility issuing missing child wristbands, looking after found children, taking reports of missing children and dealing with the possibility of distressed parents. Volunteers must be proficient on radio and be able to liaise with Event Control, act calmly and efficiently under instruction. This is a small team only open to people who have volunteered at the Festival before. Volunteers will need to have excellent customer service skills. You will need to work one 5hr shift per day (4 in total). Your shift pattern will be a combination of morning, afternoon and early evening shifts. Info teams will start from early afternoon Thursday until midday Monday.
You’ll be working on either the silent disco or the Social Venue, helping to manage queues, giving directions, general information, being a friendly face and a steward presence. As these shifts are late evening, you are only required to work 2 shifts or approx. 6hrs. Which means although your shifts will be late evening, you get more free time during the festival weekend than other teams. Lates Team shifts can fall on Thursday to Sunday evenings.
You’ll be assisting the litter and recycling contractors (Grist Group) to ensure the festival site is kept clean and that the maximum amount of recycling is achieved. Please bear in mind that this involves a lot of walking and can be physical work. Duties will involve litter picking and sometimes moving wheelie bins. Protective gloves and litter picking equipment will be provided. This team may also assist with toilet roll distribution. You will need to work up to one 5hr shift per day (4 in total). Your shift pattern will be a combination of morning, afternoon and early evening shifts. Recycling teams will start from Thursday morning until Sunday evening
We’re looking for a very small team of proactive, enthusiastic volunteers to help with selling our lovely festival merchandise. You’ll be selling programmes, other merchandise and managing performer signings. This role will involve cash handling, use of a cash register and display and stock management. You will need to work up to one 5hr shift per day (4 in total). Your shift pattern will be a combination of morning, afternoon and evening shifts.
We need a very small team to look after the Volunteer HQ overnight, keeping things stocked up and prepared for the next day. This involves some basic admin, preparing daily rotas, team packs etc. Helping on this team will involve working one overnight shift in Volunteer HQ (approx. 10pm-7am) and also one regular daytime shift, likely to be on Thursday or Friday to help with audience arrivals.
We require a small team to mark out, welcome early arrivals to the site and make sure they go to the right area, Monday to Thursday pre-festival, and also help on Monday morning post-festival with departures. As all of the shifts fall when the festival is not open, the total number of hours involved is greater than other teams (approx. 27hrs total). Please note that early in the week there are limited facilities available on site. There will be basic refreshments set up in Volunteer HQ but you will need to be able to cater for yourself.
Helping to run the Volunteer HQ tent. This role involves helping register new arrivals, charging for soup kitchen facilities, restocking supplies, issuing equipment and some basic admin tasks relating to shift attendance. Working on this team will involve 4 shifts, each approx. 5hrs. Shifts can fall between Wednesday and Monday.
This team helps organise the craft workshop tent and also the non-craft workshops in the Pavilion Venue. Greeting audience members to the workshop space, managing queues, bookings etc. Helping to prepare equipment and supplies and restocking during sessions. Tidying up after a session. In some cases, you may be asked to help the workshop leader with demonstrating skills/techniques to attendees, so some basic artistic ability and experience demonstrating to the public is desirable. Workshop shifts fall Friday to Sunday. You will be required to complete one shift each day in the workshop’s spaces (approx. 5hrs per shift) and you will also be asked to help on another team either on Thursday to help with audience arrivals, or Monday to help with departures (4 shifts in total).
You’ll be issuing audience wristbands, checking IDs, directing onwards and be as helpful and efficient as possible. We’re looking for people with experience in customer facing roles working in busy environments with excellent attention to detail. You will need to work one 5hr shift per day (4 in total). Your shift pattern will be a combination of morning, afternoon and early evening shifts. Wristband Exchange teams will start from early afternoon Thursday until Sunday evening. As most volunteers are required on the initial days you may be allocated a longer/double shift on Thursday or Friday which would mean a day off on either Saturday or Sunday.
